LSBME Search for a new Executive Director

The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (Board), an administrative agency of the State of Louisiana, within the Department of Health and Hospitals, invites applications for the position of Executive Director – the chief executive officer of the Board – which has licensing, regulatory and enforcement jurisdiction over physicians, and thirteen categories of allied health care professionals.

The position is unclassified within the Louisiana State civil service.

Qualifications: Candidates should: possess a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.); be able to demonstrate a broad background of experience in successful administrative leadership; have knowledge of state administrative procedures; be able to handle budgetary planning and preparation; be able to serve as the Board’s representative before legislative committees, regulated professions, licensure applicants, the public and the media; and possess personal and professional maturity. Not less than five years executive, administrative or health care professional experience are required.

Salary: salary is commensurate with experience and includes State benefits.

25% Decrease in opioid production in 2017

The DEA has issued a press release announcing its intent to decrease opioid production in 2017 by 25%.  Physicians should be aware of this and consider making adjustments to their prescribing practices. See Here
