CDC's Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain Webinar

CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) has partnered with CDC’s Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) and the University of Washington to present a webinar series about the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain. The series will cover when and how opioids should be initiated for chronic pain, how to assess risk and address harms of opioid use, and when and how opioids should be discontinued. Faculty and clinicians from the University of Washington will provide insight into the application of the Guideline in clinical settings.

LSBME Welcomes New Executive Director

Effective February 15, 2016, the LSBME welcomed Eric  D. Torres to his new position as Executive Director.  Mr. Torres, an attorney by training, comes to us from the DHH Office of Public Health, where he was Business Operations Director for the Health Promotion Unit.  Board Chairman J. Michael Burdine, MD, spoke for all of the Board members when he announced, “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Torres to his new post.  His background as an attorney, along with his knowledge and experience of health care issues and the financial operations of the Department of Health and Hospitals make him extremely well qualified for this position. We are confident he will do an outstanding job in leading this agency in the future.”
